A Very Tough Marathon

We stumbled into the Zagreb marathon on the weekend.

I don’t mean that we accidentally found ourselves running 42 kilometers *shudder*. Just that we went for a walk and BANG, there was a marathon going through the centre of town. And let me tell you, walking down Ilica when it’s completely closed to traffic is quite the experience.

It reminded me of another marathon that we stumbled across. This one was in Ronda, Spain, and it looked punishing.

I only had my iPod with me at the time, so these pics aren’t great. But here are some tourist shots of Ronda that give you an idea of the terrain.

Meanwhile, we sat in a bar watching runners huff and puff their way up the hill. Every time a lady runner ran past I’d start hooting and bellowing and wooing, which I think maybe C found rather embarrassing. But I was just being supportive!

I can’t find what race it was that we saw in Ronda. Any search only brings up the 101 kilometre race organised by La Legion.

One

hundred

and

one

kilometres.

I kid you not.

Think I’ll just stick to beer.

What about you? What great runs have you seen or participated in?
